Free French naturalisation test: practise online in 2026
Updated on August 22, 2026 · 5 min read
Looking for a "naturalisation test" to see where you stand? Good move: since 1 January 2026, French naturalisation requires passing the civic exam (official MCQ, 32/40 pass mark) in addition to the prefecture interview and a B2 level of French. Here is how to test yourself for free, on the real questions, and how to read your score.
"Naturalisation test": what exactly are we talking about?
| Stage | Format | What is assessed |
|---|---|---|
| Civic exam (NAT version) | MCQ: 40 questions / 45 min / pass mark 32 | Civic knowledge + real-life situations |
| Assimilation interview | Face-to-face at the prefecture | Assimilation, motivations, oral expression |
| Language test | Diploma or certificate (B2) | Spoken and written French |
When people mention an "MCQ" or "naturalisation quiz", they mean the first stage: the naturalisation version of the civic exam, which draws on an official bank of 258 B2-level questions published by the Ministry of the Interior.
The free test, in real conditions
Civinora offers a completely free mock exam (a free account lets you save your progress): 40 questions drawn from the official bank, a 45-minute timer, then your score against the 32/40 threshold with a theme-by-theme breakdown. It is the same engine as the real exam — not a generic ten-question quiz.
Test yourself now, for free
40 official "naturalisation" questions, 45 minutes, instant score and correction — with every mistake explained in your language.
Start the free naturalisation testHow to read your score
- 36/40 or more: you are ready for the exam — book your slot (registration) and keep up light practice;
- 32 to 35: you clear the threshold but with no margin — shore up your two weakest themes before paying the €70–80 for the sitting;
- below 32: nothing to worry about, this is the usual starting point — follow the 30-day revision plan and retake a mock exam every week.
After the MCQ: preparing for the interview
The test is not everything: the assimilation interview assesses your personal adherence to the values of the Republic and your oral expression. The knowledge is the same — revise once with the official bank and the citizen booklet, then prepare your personal answers (typical interview questions).
