Registering for the civic exam: where to register, where to take it, the steps (2026)
Updated on August 22, 2026 · 6 min read
Registration for the civic exam is done online only, with one of the two operators accredited by the Ministry of the Interior. Registration has been open since 8 December 2025. Here is the procedure to follow, the documents to prepare and the real timelines to anticipate.
Where to register: the two accredited operators
- CCI Paris Île-de-France, via the "Le français des affaires" platform (lefrancaisdesaffaires.fr) — sessions across the CCI network throughout France;
- France Éducation International (FEI) (france-education-international.fr) — sessions across its network of accredited centres.
Beware of intermediary sites that "sell" registration: only these two operators are authorised. The official reference information is on formation-civique.interieur.gouv.fr.
The online registration steps
- Create an account on your chosen operator's platform;
- select the right version of the exam for your procedure: multi-year residence permit, resident card or naturalisation (if unsure, check your situation);
- choose a centre and a slot from what is available;
- pay online (€70 to €80 depending on the centre — price details);
- receive your convocation by email: keep it, it is required on the day along with a valid ID.
Where can you take the exam?
Sessions are held across France, mainly via the CCI network and partner centres: major cities (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Lille, Bordeaux, Nantes, Strasbourg…) as well as many mid-sized towns. The list of centres and dates appears directly at booking, based on your region. The exam is taken only in a centre, on a tablet or computer — there is no remote sitting.
Timelines to anticipate
Depending on region and period, the first available slot can be several weeks away. Two practical consequences: book early relative to your application deadline, and use the waiting time to prepare seriously — the 32/40 threshold does not forgive improvisation. A 30-day revision plan fits the typical gap between booking and sitting.
On exam day
- Arrive early with your convocation and your ID;
- the exam lasts 45 minutes maximum: 40 MCQs on screen, one correct answer per question;
- the result then arrives by email, usually within 24 to 48 hours (details).
